Education Implications Journal
If I were to be leading a professional development workshop in educational technology at my school there are many things I would need to keep in mind. For example, when desiging my workshop I would need to take a look at my audience. There are teachers at my school who FEAR technology and want no part of it. I may want to preface them before the workshop so that they are not as resistant. I guess I would want to pre-teach for them. Most teachers at my school incorporate little technology so I would want to start small with them. Only introduce one thing at a time and then use each as a building block. We like students want to be successful at what we are doing. If I am able to lead a workshop through one integration or technology piece and create a feeling of success for my fellow teachers then I feel that they would be less resistent the next time. Slowly introducing them to new information and creating successful learning experiences will be key. As the designer I would want to find out what questions they have first and design my handout based on their questions. Odds are that if one person has a particular question someone else has the same one. I want it to be useful and meaningful for them. When you keep in mind who your audience is and you gear your product toward them you yourself will be much more successful at teaching your workshop and they will be open to learning a lot more without the FEAR. Keeping in mind that my audience is new in technology integration and that they have little use or practice with technology will be a key issue for me to focus on. I think any time you keep your audience in mind you the teacher and them the learner will have a much more successful educational experience.
